Building a-frame-home plan for remodelers
When you renovate or remodel a-frame-home, it's usually a good idea to replace the framing studs. They are really cheap and they sometimes have rot. It's best just to start with all new materials. Usually, when we renovate, we make different designs from the original design. We'll add on a garage, or a family room and try to make something fun to enhance our lives. A lot of our projects will be really involved. We may have to extend a foundation, or dig another sewer line. We need to make sure that we know our local codes when we draw up our plans to renovate. Framing is really quite easy that way. There are a few joist spans that need to be followed, and some code regulations for fire-blocking, but framing isn't hard at all. If we are tearing down or replacing any wall, we need to be sure it has adequate bracing so it doesn't fall on us. Load-bearing walls are important that way.
As far as repairs and maintenance goes, frame homes should be trouble-free if code was followed for the lifetime of the home. You may want to check the eaves outside to make sure water isn't getting in. Also check around windows and doors for signs of water damage.Floor joists and wall studs can start to rot with excessive moisture and become weak over time. By catching small leaks in time, you can save a lot of money in repair bills. Leaking water supply lines will cause a lot of damage in a short time.
