Doing at-home-fix-it-repair projects for non repair people

at home fix it repair

I have gotten several requests for at-home-fix-it-repair guides. This is a work in progress. Home repairs is something we all have to do at some time.

This website is a good resource for repairs and it gives a thorough explanation on how to install fixtures which works great for at-home-fix-it-repairs as well. Below are the departments I will cover in home remodeling and repair.
Remodeling Electrical

Remodeling Plumbing

Remodeling Roofing

flooring

interior remodeling

window and door remodeling

framing remodeling

roofing remodeling

First of all, let's get to the nitty-gritty of remodeling. I think the best way to get really clear about home renovation is by way of a questions and answers page. So here we go.

remodeling

taping Should I go ahead and try to do my own remodeling even if I don't feel comfortable about it?Only you can be the judge there, but it's natural to feel overwhelmed by things we know very little about. Remember, preparation breeds confidence, so learn all you can about your project before you get started.

Once you've learned all there is about your at home fix it repair project, you'll know if you can handle it or not. Remember that if you hire a contractor, you will be paying right around $200 per hour for labor. OUCH!

how to use a tape measure

Is it worth it to buy the tools I need for my renovation or should I just hire a contractor?

Oh man, buy the tools! Not only that, but you can rent the more expensive tools like compressors and nail guns. You can build an entire house and only spend maybe $2,000 for all the tools you would need.

A long time ago, a half-wit told me that after you buy all of your tools, you would have shelled out enough money to have hired contractors to have the work done. I know now more than ever, that guy is an idiot.

do it yourself I just can't picture myself doing my own remodeling. Isn't it dangerous?

We all have to start somewhere when we learn things. If you're afraid of power tools, you may want to have the job done for you.

The most dangerous part of carpentry is gravity. More people get hurt by falling than any other hazard. Do it yourself remodeling is fun and it saves a lot of money. You should do it if you can. You'll be a better person after it's done.
