There are many different types of lighting such as a cable-lighting-system a flex lighting display, track lighting, pendant lighting and many more. But the basic categories for lighting systems are for the functions they perform.

General lighting is for overall illumination. It uses bright lights to help us see throughout our homes. These usually have switches at doors and entryways.

Task lighting is more like lamps and spotlights that help us at desks and places for reading. These are usually fairly bright as well.

Accent lighting is to shine light on special features of a home for ambiance. These are usually track lights and low voltage lamps.

All these lighting methods add to the interior design of a home or office. You can learn about the electrical installation of lights in the home electrical wiring part of this web site.
