But the basic categories for lighting systems are for the functions they perform. General lighting is for overall illumination. It uses bright lights to help us see throughout our homes. These usually have switches at doors and entryways. Task lighting is more like lamps and spotlights that help us at desks and places for reading. These are usually fairly bright as well. Accent lighting is to shine light on special features of a home for ambiance. These are usually track lights and low voltage lamps.

When we shop for home lighting, it's always a good idea to shop around for bargains.
