Basics on how-to-clean-vinyl-siding

People often ask me how-to-clean-vinyl-siding in the easiest and fastest way possible. There are easy and fast ways with vinyl siding cleaners that you can do several times a year, but every two or three years you probably should get out the 'ol scrubbing brush.

There are several kinds of cleaners to choose from, but I personally like to go to the local hardware store and get the cheap cleaner. These just screw onto a garden hose and spray the cleaner.

I think the trick to get vinyl and metal siding really clean is to use hot water. I encourage homebuilders to put outside spigots for hot water water in a few locations.

This makes it easier to clean the outside of the home, wash the car, and lots of other stuff I can't think of right now.

Anyway, if you don't have an outside spigot with hot water, you can extend a garden hose to your laundry room and use the washer outlet for hot water. This is totally hot water so be careful when using it so you don't get scalded. Be sure to use a sprayer.

You will first need to spray the vinyl siding thoroughly to get it wet and also to clean the loose dirt away.

Next, you'll connect the vinyl siding cleaner to your hot water hose and spray it on.

Spray it on quite heavy so it really permeates the dirt. It will be sort of a detergent cleaning solution that needs to be left on for about 5 minutes before rinsing off.

This is actually a good way to clean siding without scrubbing. If after using the cleaning solution, you want to clean it better, you can reapply the solution again and rinse it off or you can dig out the scrubbing brush.

I like to use a regular scrubbing brush with dish detergent and hot water.

You will need to clean the soffit material which is usually metal. This can be done with the same vinyl cleaning solution, just spray it up onto the soffit.

It's also important to clean the window coverings. This can also be done with vinyl cleaner as well. These are usually white, so they may need a little scrubbing to get completely clean.
