While this question really has nothing to do with gender, it is something everybody worries about that decides to do his or her own contracting or construction.I've covered this a little more thorough in my free ebook. Having a good amount of common sense is all that is required to build a home. Even the most complex residential structures are easy if you just concentrate on them for awhile. The Electrical, Plumbing, and Carpentry are all easy to understand. Most people don't care to understand things like that, so they think they're stupid. As with all things, you can learn it if you're interested in learning it.
Also, the inspectors just want to help you get it right so they will answer any questions you might have.

The most important thing to be able to understand is the code requirements given to you by the building inspectors. It's not at all like lawyer babble though. The inspectors know that all types of people need to understand the codes so they keep them simple.
