Installing track lighting

Installing track lighting is really easy. You can just install any track lighting where there is an existing light. It connects to any light fixture box at one end or in the middle if the tracks are two pieces. You can use soft lighting or halogen lighting for extra brightness. It just depends if you're looking for illumination or accentuation on a wall or item.

Track lighting comes in many different styles, but it's also available as low-voltage lighting. It's really handy because most types of track lights can be adjusted to shine in a very wide range of direction.

We'll start at the ceiling fixture box on the ceiling which has the light wiring. This will be the same as a regular light using a 120-volt circuit unless you want to install a transformer for low-voltage lighting.

We need to secure the track canopy to the fixture box to hold it in place. The wiring will need to be attached in the connector unit. The connection is just white wire to white wire, black wire to black wire and ground to ground.

Secure all the wires including the ground wire to the connector unit. This will energize the track.

Measure over from the closest wall to make sure the track is even. It will be a focal point so it's important that it's even.

Secure the track with screws and then slide the track lights into the track. It would be helpful to get at least one screw into a rafter stud or joist for extra strength. The lights aren't usually heavy, but the track should be tight against the ceiling.
