Landscaping outdoor-lighting-systems

Modern outdoor-lighting-systems are both easy and fun to install. Pathway lights, garden lighting, deck lighting, and landscape spotlights are all low-voltage.If installed properly they can cause the most beautiful illumination that accentuates the exterior of the home.

outdoor lighting

Most modern outdoor lighting systems are 12-volt applications. This means that a transformer will need to be used to reduce the normal house voltage from 120-volts to 12-volts.

These transformers just plug in to outside outlets. It's good to mount them on a wall where they won't get bumped. This is also a good place to put a timer that will turn on the lights automatically. There are transformer/timer combos that save space.

If you live in areas where there is a lot of sunshine, you can use solar outdoor lights. These are fairly reasonably priced these days and the photocells are much better than they used to be as far as efficiency. Most people prefer to use halogen lights for pathway lighting because of the need for safety at night and they are much brighter than solar lights.

Starting from the transformer, you will run low-voltage cable to each of your lights. Make sure this is cable made for running underground circuitry. You can get it at any electric supply store or at most landscaping and garden centers.

The voltage will be very low and so the cable won't need to be buried, but it's aesthetically pleasing to cover the cable up with dirt or mulch once the project is done.

garden lighting

Garden lights, patio lights and pathway lights are basically the same thing. There are many different kinds to choose from according to your needs.

Put your lights where you want them and then run the cable to each light. Low-voltage lights usually have easy connections that make wiring fast and simple.

Once you get all the lights wired you can wire the cable to the transformer.

Landscape spotlights allow us to focus the attention on special highlights. Halogen bulbs are the brightest, yet still run on low-voltage systems.
