With careful planning when planting-flowers you can have beautiful colors from early spring to late fall.

Choosing and planting-flowers to beautify your landscaping is definitely an art, not a science. There are still a few things to know about planting flowers and their needs though.

Flowers grow according to climates, altitudes, soil types, pollination, and other requirements. The best place for this info is at your local tree and plant nursery.

Planting trees, plants and flowers, is really good therapy for stress. It's also a fun project for families.

Let's talk about the different kinds of flowers. The basic flower types are perennials and annuals, seeds and bulbs.

Here are a few of my favorite types of flowering bulbs.

Planting flower bulbs is done at certain times of the year depending on the variety. Tulips, for instance, can be planted in the late Fall or early Spring.

The bulbs reproduce over time. You can dig them up and replant them somewhere else.

Now let's talk about flower seeds. Even though the flower comes from a seed, it's easiest to buy it from a nursery as a plant and transplant it.

I'll discuss perennials first. I like perennial flowers because you don't have to replant them every year.

Annual flowers die in the fall and you'll need to replant in the Spring. These types of flowers are still really beautiful and worth the effort.

As other flowers, it's much easier to buy them as plants and plant them unless you have your own greenhouse.

planting flower Before planting-flowers I make sure the soil is ready. I usually mix the dirt in the flower bed with Miracle-Gro Garden soil.

Once the soil is ready then I plant the flowers in the flower bed and then water them with a light mist. Once the flowers have a better root structure, they can stand a more vigorous watering.

Here are a few types of annuals.

Some flowers like a lot of sunshine, other flowers like a little sunshine, and there are some that really prefer mostly shade.

Bleeding hearts are a beautiful perennial that does well with sun in the morning and shade the rest of the day.

It's important to know the needs of the flower. Most flowers come with tags that indicate what it's preferences are.
