Electrical quick-guide diagrams and charts
Here is an electrical quick-guide for residential wiring. This includes many applications in home wiring such as basic lighting and outlet circuits, 240-volt wiring, phone and doorbell wiring and home network and security system wiring. Diagrams make understanding easier because you can see how each circuit is put together. This wiring guide also has a chart on OHMS Law. You may be wondering what Ohms Law has to do with home wiring. Well, when we calculate how much voltage and current each circuit uses, we use Ohms Law to establish wire sizes and breaker sizes. This helps us determine how to put in electrical circuits that are within code so the wires don't overheat. Sometimes it's easier to just get a list of local codes without understanding the aspects of electrical theory. That's just fine. If you want to know exactly how much current an over/range uses for example, then you'll need to do some easy math using Ohms Law. Here's what I mean We already know that an oven/range uses 240 volts according to local codes everywhere. We know that the maximum current is going to be 50 amps because of local codes. How do we calculate how much wattage the oven will use as a maximum? Just take 240 times 50 and that will give you 12,000 watts. That is a really high number of course because most oven/ranges use around 7,000 watts. Each appliance has a rating on it. By using an Ohms Law chart you can figure out any appliance consumption needs and any breaker sizes.
